THEATRE

Theatre to nourish and to inspire.  To challenge and to inform.

STONE CRABS productions, formerly Franko's Theatrical Adventures,  is an Anglo-Brazilian theatre company based in South East London.  Theatre to us involves all forms of arts and it should be fusing many forms of world theatre, dance, music going across borders between cultures and the arts.

STONE CRABS was born and is based on the twin beliefs that education is dialogue and theatre is core to the community.

The ideas of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian educational theorist and author of the groundbreaking Pedagogy of the Oppressed, and Augusto Boal, Theatre of the Oppressed, form the ethos of STONE CRABS. STONE CRABS are now developing their own style and techniques, called TEATRO NOVO.

This is Theatre that exists to explore choices and the consequences they can bring and to practice real life within a multi-cultural society.

Stone Crabs was the group's first production which draw on the naturalistic and non-naturalistic ideas to create the  techniques of TEATRO NOVO. The performance was based on extensive interviews with victims of domestic violence and on the personal experiences of the group.

The Theatre of STONE CRABS seeks to have a muscular purity of a honed narrative yet with the raw poetic immediacy of lived risk.  TO NOURISH, TO INSPIRE, TO CHALLENGE AND TO INFORM.

"freedom is acquired by conquest, not by gift. It must be persued constantly and responsibly.  Freedom is the indispensable condition for human completion" - Paulo Freire

        Strindberg's MISS JULIE

SOME might say art and theatre is not worth unless it is controversial, which is just as well because the STONE CRABS' production of Miss Julie by August Strindberg offers a dark and disturbing examination of erotic tension and subversion.  (...)Be warned, it is strong stuff!

The company is always on the look out for artists to collaborate with us on the creation of new exciting projects!  If you share our beliefs and consider yourself to be motivated, passionate, sharing and ready to jump into the art of making theatre e-mail us straight away at artists@stonecrabs.co.uk
