If
you think Brazilian music is only about bossa nova and
samba then think again.
Samburá
is an exciting band rooted in Afro Brazilian grooves,
funk and jazz. From traditional rhythms such as maracatu,
baiao, coco, afoxé and frevo to the well-known
samba and bossa nova, Samburá makes great and
innovative music yet being accessible to wide audiences.
Due
to the unusual combination of the instruments as well
as their musical arrangements and compositions, Samburá
is considered to be unique. |
Sambura’s
musicians come from different parts of Brazil, bringing
their own musical background, therefore making the final
results both diverse and rich.
The
band is based in London and has performed in various
festivals, as Birmingham International Jazz Festival,
Cambridge Summer Festival and the JAZZ FM/London City
Festival.

Matheus
Nova on the bass
A
tremendous groovy bass player, Matheus Nova is
very popular amongst the Latin and pop London
circles for his ability to “design”
astonishing bass lines. In a word, he transforms
folkloric into “funkloric”. Matheus
has performed with many groups, including the
Brazilian Samba Divas Elza Soares and Alcione.
Based in London, he has played with Rolland Perrin,
Mark Bassey and Hugo Delmirani amongst others.
In Samburá he feels completely at home
and free to express himself, both through his
swing and his original style.

Adriano
Pinto on percussion
Adriano
is an eccentric percussionist who plays a wide
variety of instruments. In the London scene, he
played with Nóis, John Crawford and Antonio
Forcione. He has been giving workshops throughout
UK and taking part in various festivals (WOMAD,
Coin street). From the traditional afro-Brazilian
root to the influence of contemporary music, Adriano
creates an exciting atmosphere highlighting the
flavor of the Brazilian music.

JosuÉ
Ferreira on guitar, leading vocal
Write
this name down as one of the new talents of Brazil’s
contemporary generation of composers. Josué
Ferreira brings as well his vocal and instrumental
abilities together with his knowledge of Brazilian
folklore to Samburá. Travelling through
the hidden hinterlands of Brazil he gained an
experience which renewed his way of singing and
playing guitar in such an innovative, creative
and sensitive way that seduces fans wherever he
performs.

Marcelo
Andrade on violin, flute and sax
Versatility
is the word to describe the multi instrumentalist
and composer Marcelo Andrade. Having performed
and recorded with a wide variety of artists including
Milton Nascimento, Alcione, Sergio Dias (Os Mutantes)
and South African saxophonist Robbie Jansen, Marcelo
is at home with various styles of music, and he
is renewed for lifting the spirits of the band,
evolving the audience with passion and enthusiasm.
