        Promoting Capoeira is a constant task. The dedicated work of the London School of Capoeira masters has resulted in many students, organizations and the media benefiting from this art form. The School’s work is very extensive, covering not only London but also the whole of Britain and Europe , teaching workshops and seminars, performing and demonstrating the art form.

        Master Sylvia and Contra Master Marcos, both graduates of the Association of Capoeira Senzala of Master Sombra, Santos, Brazil, established the London School of Capoeira in 1988, as the first official capoeira school in the UK.

        In 1991, Master Sylvia and Contra Master Marcos, both graduates of the Association de Capoeira Senzala of Master Sombra, Santos, Brazil, opened the first known full time Capoeira School in Europe.

        In 1993, the School launched Passo a Passo Co, a Capoeira performing company, which would explore the skills and talent of experienced Capoeiristas, capturing the inspired spontaneity of Capoeira movement and creating a new language of performing art.

        In 1995, the London School became a registered Charity.

        Master Sylvia Bazzarelli

        Sylvia Bazzarelli, born in Brazil , founded the London School of Capoeira in 1988. She began learning dance at the age of seven and continued until her early twenties, began studding Capoeira at the age of sixteen. Master Sylvia came to England with the teacher’s belt and was given the master belt by Master Sombra of the Associacao de Capoeira Senzala eight years later in 1994 at the Jackson ’s lane Theatre at one of the London School of Capoeiras Grading ceremony. The Brazilian Confederation of Capoeira, Sao Paulo , Brazil , recognizes Master Sylvia’s qualification. Together with her partner Contra Master Marcos, she formed in 1994 the performing company Passo a Passo.

        Teaching Experience: Master Sylvia has run extensive Capoeira workshops at venues all over England and Europe , including the Iuna Academy, Berlin, the Paname Academy of Paris, Dartington College of Arts, The Drill Hall Arts Centre, The London Contemporary Dance School and the Commonwealth Institute.

        Performed for: The Holiday In, Oxford , Elizabeth Arden launch, London , Nokia Mobile Launch, Paris, British Gas Launch, London , the Brazilian Embassy - Brazil 500 at the Dome.

        Contra-master Marcos dos Santos

        "When I play Capoeira I feel well, both physically and mentally and it is how I have found the balance to eternal life..."

        Contra-Master Marcos dos Santos was born in Natal , Rio Grande do Norte , Brazil where he started studying Capoeira at the age of 8. In 1991 he was invited by the London School of Capoeira to join the school as one of the directors and teachers. The Brazilian Confederation of Capoeira, Sao Paulo , Brazil , recognizes Contra-Master Marcos’s qualification. Contra-Master Marcos together with his partner Master Sylvia formed the performing company Passo a Passo in 1994.

        Performed for: Improvised Music, Dublin , The Dance Xchange, VFC Cameras, The Holiday In, Oxford , Elizabeth Arden launch, London , Nokia Mobile Launch, Paris , British Gas Launch, London , the Brazilian Embassy - Brazil 500 at the Dome.

 

        Master Sylvia’s and contra-master Marcos performing work with Capoeira in this country and abroad will include the Nokia Mobile 2000 Commercial TV.
