Musical
Background:
Born 21 October 1970 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Inspired by The Beatles and The Blues Brothers he
picked up the guitar at the age of 12.
In 1991 with singer Joao de Paula and saxophonist
Luiz Machado he co-founded Banda Cara-de-Pau, a
nine-piece soul and R&B band mainly playing
Blues Brothers material. As band leader he
transcribed the horn arrangements, was responsible
for the musical direction and played the role
of Elwood Blues in the show for 2 years.
|
The
band was now doing a soul and R&B
review, playing songs by James Brown, Sam
and Dave and Otis Redding but retained the
choreography and the humour of The Blues Brothers
on stage.
The band's highly energetic and humorous set
was selling out performances at venues in
Sao Paulo such as the Mr Blues Bar (formally
known as Blue Night) and Bourbon Street
Music Club. There were also television appearances
on many shows, such as Jo Soares Talk
Show (9 March 2000), Programa Livre, Video
Show and many others. |
In 1994 recorded two tracks on a Soul/Blues compilation:
1-Make your Moves (Kita Steuer)
2-Black Dog/Lazy (R&B medley of Led Zeppelin
and Deep Purple, conceived and arranged by Kita
Steuer).
In 1995 one of the highlights was opening Ray Charles's
show at Ibirapuera Park (Sao Paulo). The band
also had the opportunity to jam with musicians such
as Chris Layton (Double Trouble), Billy Paul and
Dianne Shur.
In 1997 they recorded a live CD at Bourbon
Street Music Club.
By 2001 the band's repertoire consisted of 80 songs,
including R&B, soul and funk classics, as well
as original compositions.
In 1999 New Orleans guitarist and singer Kenny
Brown who had just moved to Sao Paulo invited Kita
Steuer to join his new funk and blues band.
There followed a two week stint at Bourbon Street
Music Club, where the band recorded a live CD with
Kita taking the lead vocal on one of the
tracks, "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing".
In 2001 Kita Steuer co-founded Banda Urso do Cabelo
Duro with trombonist Dico Las Casas (seven-piece
samba rock/samba funk band).
Kita Steuer wrote new arrangements for
songs by Jorge Benjor, Banda Black Rio and a samba
rock version of Henry Mancini`s "The Pink
Panther Theme"
Since the summer of 2002 Kita Steuer has been living
in London working as a full-time musician and songwriter
and has been playing at many venues and festivals
in London and other cities in England such as Leicester,
Morecambe, Liverpool and Brighton and in other countries
such as Norway, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Spain
and France.
Kita Steuer played at the 36th Montreux Jazz Festival
with the Guilherme Maranhao Samba Combo.
He opened Jools Holland's show with the Tone Brokers
Blues Band
Kita Steuer played in a castle in Salzburg, Austria at
a party where the guests included Prince Charles
and Princess Stephanie of Monaco, among others.
Recently Kita Steuer has been working for 25 Thirty
(music and sound design for broadcasting) (www.25thirty.com)
and recording the debut album for the B-Funk Pirates
with Mete Ege (guitar) and Nicola Marangoni (drums).
