I work basically with painting and drawing, many times with the combination of both. Flat 2D images are constructed in a random way, where I mix organic shapes and lines of uncomplete figurative realism, bringing up new forms and readings. I give great importance to ambiguity and uncertainty . I believe purity involves intuition and I try to hinder too much rationalism. Sometimes while painting or drawing I change the direction of my work exploring qualities related to its media, introducing elements brought in by memory, the use of symbolism and also allowing the material or feelings influence me conceptually.
I like to work with acrylic and black ink. There's a great use of layers and transparency which most of the time helps me in the construction of the subject. I use gold, bronze and pearl to give a shiny finish on many drawings and frequently to contrast with matt colourful paint. My main subjects are fashion and religious portraits, time, family, home and personal experiences. I use magazine models, family photographs, sketches, symbols, objects and views, text, textures and patterns. I combine them in unbalanced compositions, like painted collages, extracting unpredictable results.
Recently I've been working with portraits. Not necessarily related to anyone in particular but just busts of human beings, mainly women. After layering the first structures based on sketches or magazine photos, the painting starts getting form with the combination of colours and shapes. On the background I take the opportunity to develop intricate (but roughly made) patterns which contrast with the silhouette of the person and sometimes mixing both. The boundaries are not precise. The painting acquires an atmosphere of mystery and personal influences appear unconsciously islamic patterns, medieval illuminations, rococo, english wallpapers, biomorphic sculpture, cubism, futurism, expressionism, pop art, and so on... Contemporary artists and old masters who I admire a lot are Haluk Akakçe, Jean-Michel Basquiat, the Clayton brothers, Giorgio De Chirico, Inka Essenhigh, Ralph Gehre, Gary Hume, Beatriz Milhazes, Elizabeth Peyton, Pablo Picasso, Neo Rauch, Cy Twombly, among others.
