Verissimilitude and DJ Kid Loco

Anglo-Brazilian Zikzira Physical Theatre hits London with a week of mesmerising physical performance, cinema and music, with a rare appearance of DJ Kid Loco.

Riverside Studios, Thursday 5 – Sunday 8 May

There will also be a special screening of the critically acclaimed Brazilian dance feature film As Cinzas de Deus on Wednesday 4 May with Q&A with cast and crew.

Performance VERISSIMILITUDE

A haunting ensemble piece about the territory of subjectivity and perception

VERISSIMILITUDE, UK premier, created by award-winning Brazilian and European artists from various disciplines, comes to Riverside Studios 5-8 of May, Studio 2.

Inspired by Foucault’s The Four Similitudes, VERISSIMILITUDE deciphers subconscious symbols and explores the fabric of the human condition.
Jealousy and blind emulation; affinity and mechanisms of isolation; a witness trying to halt the machine of fate. A modern-day cannibal surrenders to his final victim in pursuit of self-annihilation. The hunter and the hunted are one.

“By means of this interplay, the world remains identical; resemblances continue to be what they are, and to resemble one another. The same remains the same, riveted unto itself.” Michel Foucault.

Choreographed by Fernanda Lippi and directed by filmmaker Andre Semenza, founders of Zikzira Physical Theatre, Verissimilitude unites key artists such as renowned fine artist Orlando Castanhõ (set design) and Guilherme Bonfanti, widely acknowledged as Brazil’s leading lighting designer.

Zikzira Physical Theatre is a company with an unorthodox take on performance. By producing dance films and site-specific events, Zikzira creates a complex experience beyond the confines of movement-driven dance.
With VERISSIMILITUDE, the company brings the site-specific approach to the theatre space, stripping it bare, and impregnating it with a unique atmosphere. www.zikzira.com

Music KID LOCO

Kid Loco, in a rare appearance, responds to the mysterious territory of Michel Foucault.
Performances will be followed by a live set Kid Loco, arguably France’s premier producer. Composer, DJ and musician, Kid Loco was instrumental in the renaissance of French music in the 90’s and his albums and re-mixes have been received with great acclaim. He has worked with theatre, film and animation. He was musical director on Zikzira’s As Cinzas de Deus, which features some of his own music. www.kidloco.com
