THE HISTORY OF CAPOEIRA

Wednesday 18 May

Book Launch: Capoeira: The history of an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art

Followed by caipirinhas and a presentation of Capoeira

Dr. Matthias Rohrig Assunçao will launch his book and give a talk and slideshow on the abolition of slavery in Brazil. This will be followed by caipirinhas and a unique performance of Capoeira by visiting mestres from Brazil. In his book, Dr. Matthias Rohrig Assunçao explores capoeira as a field of confrontation where the different struggles that divide Brazilian society are played out.
