BNEGAO & OS
SELETORES DE FREQUENCIA |
BNegao, the Brazilian Hip-Hop rising star
and a poet of amazing protest lyrics.
Thought-provoking
urban dance music
by Mdc Suingue
For the first time
in the UK, Jungle Drums magazine is bringing BNegão
and the Seletores de Freqüência over to blow
up the spot at the magazine's monthly event. "Who?!"
you might be asking if you've been switched off from
the world of contemporary Brazilian music for the past
few years. If so, you've got some catching up to do:
BNegão's debut album, Enxugando o Gelo, is quite
rightly considered one of the best Brazilian releases
of recent times. |

But
surely you must have come across some of his conscious
lyrics as a rapper for Planet Hemp, the group he helped
to found. |
|
Extremely
modest, B (as his friends call him) was uncertain of
his potential as a rapper for a long time, certain that
no one would be interested in what he had to say. He
changed his mind when he discovered that, to keep his
sanity, one particular inmate of a notorious Brazilian
prison used to chant one of B's lyrics for Planet Hemp
on a daily basis. |

A
nonreligious preacher whose Gods have no name; a formulator
of completely logical conspiracy theories; a PhD in
street philosophy; a zen master 'honoris causa'. On
his solo albums, B is all this and more, sharing his
wisdom and rhyming over Dub, Samba, Hip-Hop, Hardcore
and Funk. Thought-provoking urban dance music. A show
4 thinking minds. |
Past performances:
He will be touring Europe with his band Os Seletores de Frequencia,
playing the"side B of Black Music".
