Synopsis:

What is a scapulario, this necklace that almost every carioca wears? An Amulet, a protection?
This documentary presents a poetical introduction to this mystery, wandering around one of the most beautiful cities in the world, disconvering its original and sincere characters.

        Born on the 27th of April 1967, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
       Lives and works in Paris since 2001.

        Creates in July 2002 the independent production caméra du monde, producing institutional videos (ONG, Associations.), documentaries, and authorial pieces.
         In 1996, he works as a cameraman for the CECIP (popular images creation centre) with the director of documentary films Eduardo Coutinho.
         Between 1991 and 1999 he makes several independent videos and collaborates in a number of short-films.
         From 1991 to 1996 he completes his BA in History at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
         From 1989 to 1993 he studies at the visual art school Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro where he works with the artists Beatriz Milhazes, Astrea El Jaick and Charles Watson,
         Fomer member of Grupo Boato, a musical/performative group, active in the carioca scene between 1989 and 2000.
         Wrote lyrics that were recorded by Cidade Negra, Ney Matogrosso, Osvaldo Pereira and Pedro Luis e a Parede, among others.

       Andre Sampaio
       Born in Rio de Janeiro on the 5th of September of 1975
        Formation
        -Studied Cinema at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF).
         -Masters in Social memory at the University of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), under the title “AlÙ, alÙ cinema” (memory, culture and language on the relationship between Cinema and Radio, between 1930 and 1940)

        Main Works

        - 1996 As a sound technician and editor, made the short features “The Xupeta Clown” 16mm (1996/ Bronze Medal in the CINE ART’97 –
11th International KurzFilmFestival, Germany, 1997)

        - 1997 “Controversy: Noel Rosa x Wilson Batista” 35mm (1998/ Outstanding Cultural Expression and Best Film by Popular Jury in the 4th Uni Cinema Festival of Rio de Janeiro
         - 2001 Edition, both image and sound, of the 35mm short-film “O velho, o Mar e oLago” (The old man, the sea and the lake). Production: Imagem bruta and Marcelo Maia. Direction: Camilo Santos Cavalcante.
Award for the best edition ( Silver Tatu ) on the 28th Jornada de Cinema da Bahia.
        - 2004 Conception, direction and edition of the “video window”, exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Rio de Janeiro, for the exhibition Rua dos Inventos (Street of inventions), by Gabriela Gusmao. Production: Inventarte, wich was sponsored by IBM through the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
